HARD VOLUME

This was a tough one to make. We did it in L.A. at some godawful studio whose name now escapes me. Theo produced it and did a great job under occasionally tough circumstances. We actually recorded some stuff that later ended up on End of Silence but bagged putting it out yet.
There's some really cool stuff (especially What Do You Do and Turned Inside
Out) on here but somehow some of the
record came out sounding weird to me. I just saw Theo Van Rock and he said that it's because the monitoring there was weird so when the CD went for mastering it came out just as weird. Yes, Hard is structurally a lot like Hot for Teacher and it was probably floating around in everybody's subconcious but it wasn't a conscous lift. The CD version has "Joy Riding with Frank" which is a beautifully illustrative example of the band with Andrew when it was really on form. It's a good 20 odd minute jam off "Move Right In" typical of how we improvised back then and brings back a lot of good memories.
GEAR: Wow, I hardly remember. I think it was mostly the green Kramer I was playing back then and maybe a beautiful Rickenbacker 420 I used to have. If memory serves (and it often doesn't) I was using a rackmounted Marshall preamp and and the accompanying 2x 50w. power amp. I don't remember what cabinets. I'll ask Theo when I see him again.
