This is the first Rollins BAND album. Ian Makaye did a stellar job on this.
He was a no fuss no muss do-it-straight-and-keep-it-simple producer and kept a lot of my/our tendencies to overdo things in check. It took me a while (and producing a few other people's CDs) to appreciate that. We did this CD at Offbeat in Leeds (where Hot Animal Machine was recorded) at the end of 10 weeks in Europe. Lean, mean and hungry. It's funny how fast all those songs sound to me now because we started playing them slower and sllowwer and slllllllllooooooooooooowwwwwer over the next year or so. Solid. Geoff Clout engineered again and we tormented the poor tape op by making him try his first peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
GEAR: All sorts of things. On that tour I'd been using my SG and the Longhorn and I think that's what ended up on most of the record. I had been using a Roland GP-8 and a Carver PM 1.5 as my guitar rig (don't ask) and Ian thankfully made me swap it out for a borrowed AC30 and a Park head.
